School Audit and Strategic Planning

Overview

At Improving Schools Inc., we partner with schools and districts to assess instructional effectiveness, leadership structures, and school culture through a comprehensive school audit and strategic planning process. Using data-driven analysis and evidence-based frameworks, we help schools identify key areas for improvement and develop actionable, sustainable solutions to drive student achievement and school-wide success.
Our audit process is grounded in research-based methodologies from Leverage Leadership (Bambrick-Santoyo, 2012), The Internal Coherence Framework (Forman et al., 2017), and Driven by Data (Bambrick-Santoyo, 2010), ensuring that schools receive a rigorous evaluation and clear roadmap for progress.

Program Description

Our School Audit and Strategic Planning process is structured into three phases:

1. Comprehensive School Audit

  • Classroom observations using School Quality Review (SQR) rubrics
  • Data analysis of student outcomes, attendance, and behavior trends
  • Leadership and instructional team evaluations
  • Equity audit to assess culturally responsive teaching practices (Cultivating Genius, Muhammad, 2020)

2. Strategic Planning & Goal Setting

  • Collaborative goal-setting with school leadership teams
  • Identification of high-leverage instructional practices (Learning That Lasts, Berger et al., 2016)
  • Development of actionable, measurable school improvement plans (SIPs)
  • Alignment of goals with district priorities and accountability metrics

2. Implementation Support & Progress Monitoring

  • Ongoing coaching and professional development
  • Quarterly "step-back" data reviews to adjust strategies (Driven by Data, Bambrick-Santoyo, 2010)
  • School-wide professional learning communities (PLCs) to foster teacher collaboration and best practices
Coaching and Support

We provide embedded, on-the-ground coaching and leadership support to ensure the successful execution of strategic plans.

1. Leadership Coaching:

  • One-on-one executive coaching for principals and instructional leaders
  • Data-driven decision-making and instructional leadership development (Leverage Leadership, Bambrick-Santoyo, 2012)

2. Teacher Development & Classroom Support:

  • Real-time instructional coaching cycles focused on lesson internalization and execution
  • Support for standards-aligned lesson planning and assessment analysis
  • Culturally responsive teaching training to ensure equity in student learning experiences

3. Progress Monitoring & Continuous Improvement:

  • Regular ILT and PLC meetings to monitor implementation progress
  • Collection and analysis of leading indicators (teacher feedback, classroom walkthrough data, formative assessments)
  • Refinement of strategies based on ongoing data review cycles
